If only the moon were out... Thorn thought as she walked along the plain. Her long pink hair was loose and it danced with the breeze behind her. She used her fingers to move her hair out of her face whenever an unruly gust of wind blew it there. Her black jeans were warm enough and her combat boots were quite cozy. She had on her favorite black jacket, one she had gotten from her brother.
As she walked, the wind started to feel less friendly, and much colder. However, she kept walking. She wanted to find the perfect spot. She approached the slope and stopped. It wasn't steep enough, but it would have to do. Her deep purple eyes scanned the slope for a sign of any other person. Seeing no other person because of the veil of darkness night offered her, she slowly continued walking.
It wasn't that she was afraid of changing, just that she didn't want to change and then have someone suddenly burst out and catch her mid-phase. Thorn kept walking. She wasn't sure why, but she had a feeling this wasn't the right time to become a wolf. She sat down on the cold hard ground and looked up. What to do, what to do...

As the pink haired girl walked through the forest, twin honey golden orbs followed her movements, while a thin body lunged to and fro, trying to keep his scent upwind and far from the girl, yet her path was bound to cross his at some point. A biting breeze blew in his face, catching Eric Holmes offguard and sending the boy to his back, followed by a sharp yelp as his elbow caught an upturned root and broke skin.
As quickly as the yelp left his throat, he closed his mouth, uninjuried arm bent, hand over his mouth as if he could take back the sound by simply covering his mouth, and he waited. Hoping against hope that she wouldn't have noticed the sound, or thought it something dangerous and run away screaming.
So there he lay, on the cold ground, toward the end of Winter in a pair of pj bottoms that had little full moons and howling wolves on them and nothing else. His hand still over his mouth, other arm bent, blood slowly running down his forearm and dripping onto the ground. The cut was thin but deep.

Thorn's head turned when she heard a scream. She started thinking, because she couldn't do much else. She sat on the ground, unmoving, her eyes searching for a few seconds before getting up. Okay, let's see... She walked slowly, looking around as she did. It was a human... I hope... Too high for a boy... so it's got to be a girl... right? She swallowed nervously as she passed some trees. The darkness of night was a two-edged sword. It would help to hide her, but also hide the other person... Thorn kept walking, breathing slowly and keeping her eyes open. Suddenly she saw a body on the ground. She almost screamed, except she wasn't the screaming type and was instead the stand-paralyzed-in-fright type. Because it didn't move, she bent closer to see what it was. A little kid? Looks like he cut himself... She sighed in relief and knelt on the ground. She took off her jacket and held it out to the little boy. He had to be cold in those pajamas. Wolf pajamas. She smiled. "Here," she said as she held it closer. "Put this on."

As he lay there, Eric almost thought he was in the clear, until flaming pink hair seemed to take over his vision and the girl he had been following was standing over him, offering him her jacket and speaking. His mind was so fuzzy that her words were meaningless. Before he had started following her, Eric had just been able to sneak out of the house and enter the woods. It had been like a drug and within a few moments, he had nearly been shifting into his wolf pup form, until he had heard the girl in the forest. Now, he was so far gone, he was glad it was night, cause he was more than 50% sure he had less than noticed features if it had been daylight.
He reached out and with a clawed hand, tried to push the jacket away, nearly riping the leather, but simply snagging his hand in the pocket. "Release me, bitch!" he growled, using language that was as normal to him as breathing. Eclipse's teaching alright.

Thorn moved back, somewhat insulted. And a bit taken aback. It's not everyday a little kid curses at you. Thorn envisioned a hamster snarling at her, and thought, Well, go figure. She stood up and brushed off her jeans. "Look, I'm just trying to help you. It's dangerous for you to be here alone late at night." She looked at his elbow. "And you're cut. Let me help you." She held out her jacket again. She wasn't going to be commanded by some little kid, and she definitely wasn't leaving until he came with her. It would forever be on her conscience. "And try not to curse at me, okay?" She wasn't really in the mood for that, but it was just a kid...

Eric growled and got to his bare feet without the pink haired girl's help. "I'm fine," he stated, glaring up with golden orbs. "I know these woods like the backof my paw. I don't need your help," he growled, starting to turn from the girl and heading deeper into the forest. All he wanted to do was run free.

Thorn felt like she had just stepped into a wierd horror movie where she was the main character being hunted in a dark forest. Of course, for that to be true, it'd have to be a horror movie and she'd have to be the main character being hunted. Luckily, she still had the wierd and dark forest part. "I know this forest like the back of my paw..." kept replaying in her head. "...like the back of my paw... paw..." "Holy shit." Thorn started after the boy who had already had a good head start. "Hey, wait a second!" She used some of the muscle she had from playing with all those kids in the street and sped after the kid. She caught up to him and spun him around quickly. She bent over, her hair falling around her face. She looked back and forth, her purple scanning his golden eyes. Golden eyes... That's all the proof I need. Now that she was closer, she could see that he was in mid-phase, as if he had stopped for something. "You're a werewolf, aren't you."

Eric let out a surprised yip as the girl suddenly spun him around like he was some kind of toy. Yet, his growl was cut off as she actually asked him if he was a werewolf, causing him to shake with fear. Eclipse was going to kill him!
"You don't know what your talking about!" he tried to say, but even as he uttered the words, he knew they were coming out as growls. Suddenly, he was very calm and looked at the girl, right in her purple eyes. "You know I'm going to have to kill you," he stated, plain as day.

Thorn shivered as a particularly cold breeze whipped around her. My jacket! she thought in alarm. I must have left it behind when I chased this kid! Dammit... that was my favorite one... Thorn looked down at the little boy calmly when he said he was going to have to kill her. And did he just growl at her? She resisted a delightfully strong urge to growl back. It was just a kid... "Okay kid. That's it. One more crack like that and I'm going to rip your spine out and beat you with it. Got it?" she asked with the slightest hint of a growl. So much for self-restaint.

Suddenly, Eric broke out in feral grin and kind of half giggled and half growled happily. He honestly thought her comment was funny, or maybe it was just how he imagined it happening. "Your a werewolf, too, aren't you?" he asked through his giggling fit, as he slowly backed away, not wanting to be touched anymore. He seriously just wanted to run before the night ended and he had to go back to his mother.

Thorn smiled. Smart kid. He picked that up pretty quickly. "Yeah, I am. What are you doing out here by yourself?" She added quickly, "I'm sure you can take care of yourself, but it's still dangerous for you to be here. Alone. At night." She watched him move away a little, and thought to herself, At least he isn't running anymore...

Eric just rolled his shoulders, listening to the slight popping sound as his bones groaned uned the extra strain of trying to stay human when his body wanted something else. A rush of air was forced through his nose, as it seemed to be a half-hearted snort. "My mother's friend is the Alpha of the pack that controls this land. Most of the werewolves within the pack know who I am and don't bother me if I run through the forest alone," yet even as he spoke, he made a gesture for her to move closer. "Want to know a secret?" he asked, looking around to make sure no one was around.

Thorn smiled and moved closer, bending over slightly. She looked at the little boy curiously. "Yeah, sure." She scratched her head. "Maybe you should change to one form completely first... I'm not sure, but that looks a bit uncomfortable..." She shivered again when another breeze kissed her already cold cheeks. Brr... wish I had my fur coat on.... she thought as she looked at the little kid. "What's your name, by the way? I'm Thorn."

Trying to calm himself down, Eric nodded, taking her advice as he slowly started to regain control over himself and the tension eased as he accepted his full human form back. "I'm Eric . . . . Nice to meet you Thorn," he said, leaning his head closer as he got ready to tell her his big secret. "The guy who is Alpha of the pack . . . . Eclipse . . . He's training me!" he said, as if it was the coolest thing in the world, which to him it was, but to others, it had to be annoying when their own Alpha refused to have pups and taught a half-breed their ways. Thorn grinned in amazed interest. "You mean you know the Alpha? That's pretty cool. I've never met him. But it's great that he's training you." She smiled kindly. "Now, I hope you don't mind, but I need to find my jacket. This breeze is a bit chilly..." She wasn't sure what to say next. "Would you like to help me? Since you know the forest like the back of your paw, maybe you could help me go back to where it is?" She straightened and looked at Eric, waiting for his response.
